Gérard Boulay Sancerre Chavignol 2024The Boulay family can trace their history as vineyard owners in Chavignol back to 1380 and Grard has spent decades making the case that this village produces Sancerre in a category of its own. He farms 8 of his 9 hectares on the slopes of Chavignol on Kimmeridgian limestone soils, organically since 1990, with an average vine age of around 45 years. He adds no yeast and minimal SO2. The result is Sauvignon Blanc that reads more like white Burgundy:
