Sister Benvenuta and the Christ Child | Vernon Lee | 1911
Description
Sister Benvenuta and the Christ Child | Vernon Lee | 1911Attractive, pocket sized binding of Sister Benvenuta & the Christ Child, a short story by Vernon Lee. She was as well known for her sapphic lifestyle and androgynous appearance as she was for her supernatural fiction. Having seen Oscar Wilde during his heyday, she sought out his professor at Magdalen and mentor Walter Pater, learning from him and becoming part of the Aesthetic movement. The book is in very fine condition; unread.
Beautifully framed
I bought this fabulous midcentury oil painting on canvas because she reminds me so much of the paintings I see in my favorite horror movies of the time
I explain to customers frequently that these books were meant to prepare children for the grim possibility of early death- either their own or a loved one’s
It’s beautifully colored in chalk and in its original gilded frame with domed glass
Midcentury vintage black cassock with red trim from Saint Benedict Monastery
A one-of-a-kind find: This Victorian plate is hand painted with a woman & owl on a crescent moon
They are most often found in France
Retains its stamp
I especially love the crescent moon
Very good condition
Superb Victorian hair work bracelet
Longtime followers probably know my obsession with this turn of the century women’s fencing costume
