ドイツ人アーティスト、ゼバスティアン・リーメル（Sebastian Riemer）の作品集。本書は、前世紀に報道写真産業によって生まれた、印刷されるも捨てられることとなった「紙」に着目したシリーズである。作者は数々のイメージを検証し、今の時代の視点から見ると原始的とも言えるプロセスを経た編集業務に費やされた手作業を分析する。この研究は、数十年前の画像が支えた物質性や描かれた人物の身体性に疑問を投げかけるものである。モチーフは切り取られ、スタイルに沿って形作られ、「美化」される。人々の記憶の中でいかに幻想的なイメージを構築しているかが明らかになった時、この作業はグロテスクで過激で、暴力的にさえ見えてくる。緻密なモノクロ画像の流用はメディア考古学的行為であり、イメージの信憑性に対する保証というものへ、そしてレタッチされた色彩の印象的で絵画的な質感へと我々の注意を向けさせる。2013年以降に制作されたこのイメージ群は、写真と絵画、ドキュメンタリーとその対極あるものの間の境界線を曖昧にする。

硬質な陶器の表面に無限に現れる線と円による上品な繰り返しは、柔らかく浮遊するような模様へと変化していく。 タイルの面が展示空間の部屋を覆い、多層的に織りなされる劇場の背面となる。 時には予期せぬ断片として姿を現し、常に我々の触覚を覚醒させるだろう。
