Magnetite
Description
MagnetiteThis specimen has fine, sharp, lustrous, black, metallic, "Alpine type" octahedra (some are twinned) associated with cream colored Feldspar on matrix. Great quality for the species and the locality, and the faces on the Magnetite crystals are rather smooth and shiny with good isolation between the crystals. Keep in mind that there are no other localities producing Magnetites of this quality today, and there are few localities in the world that have
Specimen # BOL711B254
It is one of the largest Hambergite crystals I've seen from the Palelni Mine
so collecting and obtaining specimens will become very difficult in the future
Specimen # BOL711B132
and are certainly the best of what they are from Bolivia
monoclinic crystals of Scorzalite with Quartz on matrix
It has an attractive "stacked" or layered growth with that "wet" luster I mentioned earlier and pure jet-black opacity
which is only seen in a very small percentage of pieces from Tasna
I have photographed the crystals under the microscope to better illustrate their quality
The concentration of decent-sized crystals on this piece makes this a worthwhile cabinet sized piece of this classic material
so the piece is not 100% pristine
and this piece would make a fine addition to any thumbnail collection or a suite of Pakistani minerals or worldwide metamorphic minerals
