It will take away any shine or luster the laces have

All boots and bodies are different

it brings out the orange/red

The ends can be waxed (standard is the last 12 inches of the laces)

There are two options for waxing:

it typically darkens the colors and can leave a tacky/waxy feeling and tend to make the laces stiffer

Waxing will affect the color of the laces
